Thank You!!

A very special thank you to Sean and the Brandon Foundation (www.brandonfoundation.com) for the tickets to the Rock, Rib & Roll...it was fun!!

Also, thank you to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation (www.fastercure.org) for the tickets to the Lightning game last nite. We had a great time!!

About Sierra

Sierra was born on February 11, 1999. We knew she was a girl but we did not know she had Down Syndrome. Danny and I were really scared and had so many questions but I also knew God gave her to us for a reason and knew we could handle it. The genetic doctor came in and said all the medical risks associated with having Down Syndrome and he did mention the dreaded higher risk of Leukemia. I learned a lot from Sierra and just enjoyed every moment with her. It is amazing to look at the world through her eyes. You know one of the biggest things I have realized that children with special needs have all the qualities in their heart that God wants us to possess. They love unconditionally and have the amazing ability to forgive and not hold a grudge. Does that mean they can be pushed around? Oh no, most can definately stick up for themselves and let you know when they are not happy with you. Sierra had such a great personality and God blessed her with the most amazing soul. I am so honored to have been her mom and wish I could have had her with us for many many many years. God needed her in Heaven. She definately touched many lives in her short 9 years. Her service was filled with so many people. I have never seen a service so full. I know she was smiling down at all the love being shown to her that day. I miss her. Don't believe the stereotypes about people with Downs and give them a chance. If you find yourself expecting or have a baby with Downs believe me they are the most amazing children and you are going to love every minute, every moment. For those who have never met Sierra, this site can only give you a bit of an idea of how amazing she was and believe me she was amazing. We love you, baby girl!!

To Honor You

To Honor you, I get up every day
And take a breath
And start another day
Without you in it.

To honor you, I laugh and love
With those who knew your smile,
And the way your eyes sparkled with joy,
Full of life.

To honor you, I take the time
To appreciate everyone I love.
I know now there is no guarantee
Of days or hours spent in their presence.

You are the light of my life,
My gift of love
From our Heavenly Father.

So every day, I vow to make a difference,
Share a smile, live, laugh, and love.
Now I live for us both.
So all I do, I do to honor you,
My precious, beautiful child.

My Baby Has Cancer

I dedicate this poem I wrote not just to my baby girl but to all children & families affected by the cancer monster:

I held my baby in my arms
My heart filled with so much love
This baby I was holding
Is my present from above.
I imagined all the good times,
My child's life in stages
All the perfect memories
In all the different ages.
The future of my baby
Was to live a normal life
A life so filled with happiness
Not sadness, grief or strife
Then my little one got ill
The waiting made me worry
The doctor said it's Cancer
"We have to start chemo in a hurry"
The room it started spinning
I couldn't catch my breath
I had a hard time believing
This was a matter of life and death
All my dreams and hopes for my baby
It all began to shatter
But I realized at that moment
My babys life is all that matters
The chemo changed my baby
How she looked and how she ate
Her beautiful long hair gone
And she lost a lot of weight
But appearance is not important
Just as long as she gets better
I have to take things day by day
Following doctor's rule to the letter.
I have met so many families
On this new life that we live
They have been my main support
And to them my heart I give.
Our lives have a different purpose
Then the one we had before
All we want is a cure
For these children we adore.
I believe my baby girl will make it
With God's strength & grace we proceed
I will now fight for all these children
For a cure they desperately need.
So, to my little baby girl
You're a fighter this is true
I am proud to be your momma
I have so much love for you.
